The "old railroad trestles" are actually remnants of an old streetcar line that was replaced by the 100 bus. It ran up the Fellsway from Sullivan Sq., which is why the Fellsway is so wide from Wellington Circle to Elm St. in Medford where the 100 bus turns around. From there, it ran up the Fellsway, and then over private reservation through open country in what is now the Fells and terminated at Stoneham Center.
Eventually the route was cut back to Elm St., and then was bustituted.
