Yesterday I walked home from rehearsal.

This is only notable because I'd arrived on my bicycle, which was no longer there when it was time to go home. All I have left is a broken piece of the chain that was locking it to the stop sign. People suck. Blargh.

I suppose I'll be walking more, which I really need to do anyway with the Jimmy Fund Marathon Walk coming up. (Donations gratefully accepted -- the Walk benefits the Dana Farber Cancer Institute.)

So sorry to hear about that - people suck.....

Hey, I might be able to help you out with a replacement ship - I've got some trashpicked bikes around. Get in touch.

Ouch. Sympathy.
I've been really paranoid about my bike, which means that I mostly haven't
ridden it anywhere except for the sake of riding itself. I've only walked
away from it at all a couple of times. Sometimes I think I'm too paranoid.

But yeah, sometimes people suck. *hug*

Seems like there are a lot more reports of both bike thefts and car breakins recently.

I'm being tempted to sign up for that walk myself. I could definitely do 26 miles.

Oh, I'm so sorry! [livejournal.com profile] plumtreeblossom just told me about this and I came here to see if you’d posted about it.

Yuck!

I’m not religious, but it still seems like it takes a lot of chutzpah to steal a bike from right outside a church. Where’s a lightning bolt when you need it?

(Thanks for reposting the Jimmy Fund link; I'd been meaning to contribute.)

fuck people. really. especially bicycle thieves. having had one cut off my front porch and the replacement beater taken four months after that - tho it was unlocked, i know how that feels.

but between this and hearing about cyclist getting egged.... getting fed up with this place.

edit:oh yeah, and *HUG*s

I'm so sorry about your lost bike. I hope you file a police report. While it won't get your bike back, it might help with your insurance company (I think renters' insurance covers stuff like stolen bikes?) and who knows? Perhaps the police will be able to do *something* about all the theft lately.

I can't believe it took the tenth comment ([livejournal.com profile] hahathor's) for someone to hug you. Mean people suck.

Let me know if you'd like to borrow mine until you get a replacement. I've barely been home enough to use it.

The "Edited at ..." in small italics time-stamped 12 minutes after my preceding comment tends to give away that you edited it after the fact, but nice try. :)

File the police report if you haven't already. When mine was stolen, I called them minutes after the theft. Police found it 20 minutes later, leaning against a dumpster behind the North Street public housing buildings. Youths standing nearby claimed to know nothing about it, of course.

OTOH, I witnessed a guy with bolt cutters in the process of stealing a bike in Copley Sq. one sunny afternoon. I ran over to a cop less than 100 feet away, and pointed out what was going on. He was not interested--seems he was just finishing duty at a construction site nearby. Couldn't even be bothered to call it in on his radio. Shrugged his shoulders. WTF.

The thief expertly cut through the cable and rode off with the bike in under three minutes. Left behind the cut cable and helmut that was on it. Obviously not a bike owner who lost his key.

I wish I had happened to step outside the church right when that was happening. I would have screamed my lungs out to get attention and (ideally) make the thief flee.

BTW, if you do a police report, might want to see if any of the traffic light or store cams on College Ave (D&D or any of the convenience stores) caught someone riding what appeared to be your bike. (Actually, does Somerville even dare have traffic cams?)

Should have called 911 about a theft in progress and then gotten the ass's name and badge number.

Actually, if you're going to be pedantic about it, then [livejournal.com profile] gentlescholar was the first at post #3.
