I need a hug!

Yesterday I walked home from rehearsal.
This is only notable because I'd arrived on my bicycle, which was no longer there when it was time to go home. All I have left is a broken piece of the chain that was locking it to the stop sign. People suck. Blargh.
I suppose I'll be walking more, which I really need to do anyway with the Jimmy Fund Marathon Walk coming up. (Donations gratefully accepted -- the Walk benefits the Dana Farber Cancer Institute.)

Date: 2009-07-21 04:41 pm (UTC)I've been really paranoid about my bike, which means that I mostly haven't
ridden it anywhere except for the sake of riding itself. I've only walked
away from it at all a couple of times. Sometimes I think I'm too paranoid.
But yeah, sometimes people suck. *hug*

Date: 2009-07-21 04:53 pm (UTC)Yuck!
I’m not religious, but it still seems like it takes a lot of chutzpah to steal a bike from right outside a church. Where’s a lightning bolt when you need it?
(Thanks for reposting the Jimmy Fund link; I'd been meaning to contribute.)

Date: 2009-07-21 05:37 pm (UTC)OTOH, I witnessed a guy with bolt cutters in the process of stealing a bike in Copley Sq. one sunny afternoon. I ran over to a cop less than 100 feet away, and pointed out what was going on. He was not interested--seems he was just finishing duty at a construction site nearby. Couldn't even be bothered to call it in on his radio. Shrugged his shoulders. WTF.
The thief expertly cut through the cable and rode off with the bike in under three minutes. Left behind the cut cable and helmut that was on it. Obviously not a bike owner who lost his key.

Date: 2009-07-21 05:46 pm (UTC)BTW, if you do a police report, might want to see if any of the traffic light or store cams on College Ave (D&D or any of the convenience stores) caught someone riding what appeared to be your bike. (Actually, does Somerville even dare have traffic cams?)

I've had good luck with a really long Kryptonite u-lock that I got at Home Depot - designed for locking ladders to trucks. They're less expensive than their bike locks - probably because they don't guarantee to replace your bike if it's broken. They seem basically the same otherwise.
