I don't even have a TV*, but the advertising and word-of-mouth is sufficiently pervasive that I still know it's Shark Week on Discovery, so there was no way I could lose the opportunity to post with this userpic.
And as long as I'm at it, here's a few excellent links:
- Amazing sculptor whose medium is pencil tips. It's kind of mind-blowing.
- The Manhattan borough president, who, like a typical New Yorker, does not leave the city for anything, will marry in Connecticut due to NY not yet recognizing same-sex marriage.
- My friend (and former co-star)
28bytes was in the paper for the release of his new awesome game for the Atari 2600: Duck Attack! (Yes, Atari 2600. Check it out!)
- Old, but I've had it open in a tab for over a year, I think. One of my favorite Onion bits ever, particularly of amusement if you're a fellow puzzler.
- Tear-inducing story from Children's Hospital about treating transgenders kids, and one kid's story in particular.
[* ETA: Just to be clear, since too many people I know believe it somehow elevates them, the fact that I don't have a TV in no way makes me better than you. It's just a random factoid that had relevance there. The things that make me better than you are of far greater substance.]

As long as people are willing to spend an amount of money equal to the national debt on their weddings, I say "the White Mountains are a *fine* backdrop for your nuptials. Live Free or Die, baby!" To those states who haven't figured this out, I'm OK with their citizens opening their wallets to my local economy. Go ahead and ban the license to print money in your state, and let me know how that works out for you.
Gay marriage bans are going to be a problem only as long as people fail to recognize that the wedding-industrial complex is a huge economic engine. Trying to make rational arguments ("Straight couples divorce, beat each other, neglect their children, and do all the "monster" things you say gay people do") never convinced anyone of anything. If you show someone that "there's gold in them thar hills!", you've won their hearts and minds in less time than it takes to say "I do".
